If there was still any doubt about what the iPad was or if you really needed it, this ad makes it clear, you are either one side or another. We all need an iPad asap. We also need to get a Vespa scooter, otherwise you don't stand a chance to make it to the new Apple stereotype, the one who doesn't dance (as back on 2005) but prefers to watch 500 days of summer, and that's cool.
I must admit, regardless of the tone on the previous paragraph, that I really like the iPad and the Ad itself. I even like the idea of Apple promoting the use of scooters for a greener environment given to low fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions (that's what they did, right?). For some reason the video tasted to fancy coffee, felt like indie music and had a bit of a hipster touch.
Apple is targeting to as many new customers they can get but also to hold the usual suspects, that particular niche we know it's out there and that could do just fine with a $400-laptop instead. Most of Apple fanboys (say pre or post-intel era, it's your call) and geeks are left out of the target audience since they already know what the iPad is, what it does and what could do (Spirit anyone?) from way before the iPad was officially announced.
I like the idea Apple is selling and how that entertainment hub can be everywhere and do everything, I'm just a little worried, as a consumer, of how that is going to affect the industry given the antecedents of web and application development after the release of the iPhone, in which everyone started to develop (and still) on an iPhone-centric way leaving other systems (Symbian, Android) aside.
